Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/330/E973
Date
[1408-1409]
Description
Petitioners
John de Haryngton (Harrington), knight.
Name(s)
de Haryngton (Harrington), John
Addressees
Archbishop of Canterbury, Chancellor, and the Bishop of Durham.
Nature of request
Haryngton states that at the last parliament held at Gloucester he bargained with the chancellor and bishop for the custody of the lands and tenements of Fulk Fitz Warren and for the marriage of the son and heir that came into the hand of the king by the death of Fitz Warren and the tender age of his son. He requests remedy as a process has been begun in the Exchequer against him for the gold of the queen, namely a mark for every 10 marks of the 700 marks that he has paid for the custody and marriage as this amounts to 70 marks and is against right and reason, and against the intent and effect of the bargain.
Nature of endorsement
For the Lord de Harrington.
Places mentioned
Gloucester, [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned
[Thomas Arundel], Archbishop of Canterbury and chancellor
[Thomas Langley], Bishop of Durham
Fulk Fitz Waryn (Fitz Warren)
Fulk [Fitz Waryn (Fitz Warren)], son and heir of Fulk Fitz Warren.
Note
The petition can be fairly precisely dated to 1408-1409 as it refers to the last parliament of the parliament held at Gloucester which by the hand of the document clearly makes it that held in October 1407, and Arundel, the archbishop of Canterbury, was chancellor from 30 January 1407 until his dismissal in December 1409.
