- [Petition in 5 parts:]1) They request remedy as they have had from time before memory all manner of pleas saving life and limb in their land and liberty of Padstow until 34 years previously when the sheriff of Cornwall wrongly distrained their provost of that vill to present cries at the foreign hundred in infringement of their estate, of which estate they have general confirmation of Edward the Confessor and king John.2) They request that all of their burgesses of Padstow be quit of all manner of tolls throughout Cornwall as they had until they were ousted by the same sheriff.3) They also make a request concerning their Thursday market and fair on the eve, feast and morrow of St Leonard of which they are in the same manner ousted.4) They request confirmation of all those things generally granted to them by the charters of King Edward and King John.5) They request confirmation and specification of their rights to the fishery of the rivers Allen and Camel.
- Nature of endorsement
- [One response struck-through].1) They should show at the Exchequer before the treasurer and barons what they have, and the treasurer should do what he considers ought to be done for the king.2) The king will not grant to them new liberties, but if they wish to have confirmation of their charter in its current form, then they should come before the treasurer and make a fine.
