Date

Description
Petitioners
Bernard (Bernat) de France.
Name(s)
de France, Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Bernard de France states that John de Haustede, the Seneschal of Gascony, ordered Fortaner de Garvage, Bertran de la Tours and Peter Presting by his letters patent that as soon as they had received Saint-Gein and Rondeboeuf, occupied as a result of the late disturbances, from the King of France's people, they were to deliver them to Bernard, to hold as he did before the disturbances, until the king had ordained otherwise; and he has received these places in this way. He requests letters warranting these places to him in the way that the king will be advised and as he pleases, in compensation for his losses in lands and goods, as he previously held them in the name of Oliver de Burdeux, to whom the king's father gave them to hold at pleasure; as Oliver, his kinsman, is happy for him to have the keeping of them.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the keeping of the places requested: the king wishes to be informed as to who holds them at present, and how, and in what manner, before he grants them to anyone else. With regard to the losses: the king has understood that some compensation has been made in such a case, and will shortly send a suitable seneschal to those parts, who will inform himself of the losses and damages given and received, and the damages inflicted, and the condition of the people, and will act in such a manner that everyone will reasonably consider himself satisfied.
Places mentioned
Saint-Gein, [Gascony, France]
Rondeboeuf, [Gascony, France].
People mentioned
John de Haustede, Seneschal of Gascony
Fortaner de Garvage (Garrevache)
Bertran de la Tours
Peter (Pey) Presting
[Philip VI], King of France: Oliver (Olivier) de Burdeux (Bordeaux)
[Edward II], King of England.
Note
John de Haustede was Seneschal of Gascony between February 1327 and June 1332: this petition must date from this period. From the mention of the sending of a new seneschal, it would seem to date to around the time of the appointment of Oliver de Ingham in June 1332.
