Description (What the record is about)
-
- Petitioners
- Bernard (Bernat) de Bearn.
- Name(s)
- de Bearn, Bernard (Bernat)
- Addressees
- King.
- Nature of request
- Bernard de Bearn makes two requests:1) He asks the king to order the present Constable of Bordeaux, or the person who will be Constable, to pay him the money owed to him for his wages during the war and for his lost horses, and the wages assigned to him when he was banished, as he has never had a penny for these.2) He states that the king's father received him into his retinue and gave him an annual income of £100 sterling from the issues of the Duchy of Guyenne, and he requested and received the lands of William Feugares in part payment of this: but they are worth £30 sterling only. He asks that the Constable might be ordered to pay him the remainder of the £100, and that the lands might be given to him and his heirs for the customary services.
- Nature of endorsement
- With regard to the wages, the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to account with him and to pay him what is due to him. With regard to the land, which he says is worth only £30, the king wishes to be informed about this. With regard to the confirmation, the kings of England and France have arranged a day at Paris at the octaves of Michaelmas next, concerning requests made on one side and the other; and among the requests of the King of England mention is made of his lands and of the lands of his subjects in those parts, where he certainly intends to have restitution. When he has it, they will be served in a suitable manner; and if by chance they do not meet with success in the matter of these lands, the king will inform himself both of their losses in lands and chattels and of their good service, and he will give them such a response that they will reasonably consider themselves to be satisfied.Done with regard to the wages.
