Description
Petitioners
Amaneu, Lord of the castle of Noaillan.
Name(s)
Lord of the castle of Noaillan, Amaneu
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Amaneu, Lord of the castle of Noaillan, states that before the time of the war in Gascony, he and his predecessors enjoyed high and low justice in all the castellany of their castle and its appurtenances, but that since the peace the king's seneschal and his people, and especially the prevot of Barsac, have obstructed his enjoyment of this justice in many ways, challenging and suing his right before the seneschal or his lieutenant. He asks that the truth of the matter might be inquired into by a good inquisition, and that, according to the findings of this inquisition, the obstructions might be removed, and Amaneu allowed to have his justice as he used to.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to inform himself concerning this business, and, when he has called the king's defender on this, to do justice on the same.
Places mentioned
Noaillan, [Guyenne, France]
Barsac, [Guyenne, France]
Gascony, [France].
Note
Tentatively dated to 1290 by AHG, vol.XIII pp.377-378 (no.120); but from the hand and the mention of the war in Gascony (1294-1298) it must surely be from Edward I's reign, after 1298.
