Note
The enclosed copy of the writ (now SC 8/337/15903) was originally issued on 15 September 1308, and was probably the response to the petition at SC 8/270/13485. However, the present petition clearly dates to some point after Langton left the chancellorship in July 1310. Somery appears on the patent roll as a royal clerk and official until around 1321, and was appointed to the benefice of Llan-faes on Anglesey on 18 June 1319, and as warden of St Thomas's Hospital, Marlborough, on 12 March 1321. Neither was necessarily a direct consequence of this petition, but the reference to over 21 years' service, and to serving the king as prince at the Lincoln parliament of 1301, might suggest a date around that time, and probably no later than c. 1321.
