Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/296/14764
Date
[? c. 1332]
Description
Petitioners
John Ammory, knight.
Name(s)
Ammory, John
Addressees
Chancellor.
Nature of request
John Ammory states that he for the last three years he has been one of the triers for William Trussel and his companions, justices of trailbaston in Leicestershire, as William can attest, but at the same time he has been summoned before Henry de Grey and his companions, justices of trailbaston in Essex, and heavy forfeitures have been demanded from him in his absence. He requests a writ to be discharged of these.
Nature of endorsement
Because it has been attested before the council by the said William that the said John was one of the triers before him in the county of Leicestershire at the same time as he lost his issues before the said justices in Essex, the said Henry is to be ordered that if he has not sent his estreats to the Exchequer, he is to re-try the issues demanded and returned from the said John, because he did not come before him and his companions, and to allow him to be quit; and if he has sent his estreats to the Exchequer, then a similar writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons.
Places mentioned
Leicestershire.
People mentioned
William Trussel, justice
Henry de Grey, justice.
Note
CPR 1330-4 p.293 is dated 21 March 1332, and would seem fairly likely to be the commission to Henry de Grey mentioned here. The commission to William Trussel might be CPR 1330-4 p.135 or p.138 (both dated 15 February 1331), although it is noted on p.138 that William Trussel was replaced on 28 June as he was too busy with other business of the King's to act. In any case the hand and language would seem to suggest that this is a reasonable approximate date for this petition.
