Nature of request
Le Smale requests restoration of the deanery of the free chapel of St Martin le Grand in London granted to him by the King's father, upon the resignation of Cissebure, and which he held peaceably, improving the church, cloisters and houses belonging to the church at his own great expense without profit or advantage, from 4 March in the 19th year of his reign [1326] until over three quarters of a year after the King's death when Ellesfeld, who had no right to the said deanery, forcibly removed Smale from the same and enjoyed its revenues and rents and Smale's goods and movables, and after his death Woodford held and still holds the same, and Smale is now greatly in debt since he spent all his money on the said church, as is well known in London.

This petition should be sent to Chancery and the chancellor, having called the parties before him and viewed their collations and heard their reasons, should do swift justice.
