Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/270/13486
Date
[? 1335]
Description
Petitioners
Archbishop of Armagh.
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Archbishop of Armagh
Nature of request
[The petition is very badly damaged and much of the petition remains illegible:]The archbishop requests that he be granted the lordship of Ardee in perpetuity because all his lands have been burned and destroyed by the Irish, and requests pardon of £200 . . .
Nature of endorsement
It pleases the king that he have a pardon of the £200 for the service that he has done to the king.
Places mentioned
Ardee, [County Louth, Ireland].
Note
The petition is dated to? 1335 in accordance with the suggested dating given in the guard note. However, the foundations for this are not entirely clear as they seem to be based on references in inquisition and close roll references whose relationship to the petition if any is unclear so that the date needs to be considered with some care (CCR 1333-7, p.565; CIM 1307-49, no.1452).
