Note
This petition is very similar to that at SC 8/337/15904, both in the terms and the phraseology, although the petitioner here claims to have served the king for 23 years rather than the 21 years noted in the other petition. It therefore seems likely that it dates to slightly after that petition, which can be dated to the period between the end of John Langton's chancellorship in July 1310 and c. 1321. Somery appears on the patent roll as a royal clerk and official between c. 1300 and c. 1321, and was appointed to the benefice of Llan-faes on Anglesey on 18 June 1319, and as warden of St Thomas's Hospital, Marlborough, on 12 March 1321. However, neither can be identified as a direct consequence of either petition.
