Nature of request
Hardheved, made keeper of the gaol of the castle of Cockermouth by Normanville when the honour of Cockermouth came into the King's hand after the death of the Countess of Aumale and into Normanville's keeping, requests pardon for the escape of Alde, arrested on suspicion of stealing a cow and detained in the same prison, who broke out at night and escaped because the gaol is so feeble and insufficient that it cannot be safely guarded. The petitioner promptly raised the hue and cry and Alde was recaptured and beheaded at Setmurthy on a mountain called Howrigg.
