- The Prior of Hexham recounts that in the last eyre of Cumberland before Cressingham and his companions the King brought his writ against the prior to recover the advowson of the church of Alston, which is in Tynedale in the county of Northumberland as appears by the King's charter made to Vipont, and the prior said in response that Alston was not in the county of Cumberland, but the said justices would not let him answer and put him on an inquest of the county of Cumbria when he has no knowledge of tenements in another county, so that the King recovered the advowson. The prior requests that he can show his right to the advowson and recover the same.1)
