Carleton requests that whereas he delivered to Denton £143 5s 10d in part payment of £300 by the King's writ under the targe (privy seal), which money the barons of the Exchequer will not allow, that he may have a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they should allow this payment.
Nature of endorsement
The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer should be ordered to call before them Carleton, de la Pole and Denton and examine their command and his acquittance if found, or otherwise discover if Denton received the money as de la Pole's attorney, and that Carleton should then be discharged of the money and de la Pole charged with the same.

Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1333. The petition must date to 1328 or later since Carleton was appointed keeper of the King's victuals brought to Newcastle in 1327 (CFR 1327-37, p. 43) and Nottingham was appointed to survey the King's victuals in Carleton's keeping in 1328 (CFR 1327-37, p. 100). In 1334 it was granted to Denton that he be quit for life of all customs, prises of wines and maletolts (CPR 1330-4, p. 553).
