SC 8/264/13187
Date
[c. 1348]
Description
Petitioners
John de Bures, knight.
Name(s)
de Bures, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bures requests remedy because he sued a complaint of trespass against Vincent and John le Vynch', Lende and John and de Menil before Burghersh that on the Monday after Epiphany in the twenty-second year of the King's reign [1348] they broke into the petitioner's chamber and chests at Winchelsea with force and arms and stole his armour and an obligation made to him by Caus of £4000 4s 4d to be paid to him on Purification next, wherefore he lost his action against Caus, and le Vynch' and the others were excused from the trespass because John de Menil, in collusion with Caus and the others, sued a complaint against the petitioner in the same town, and judgment is delayed because they claim that the case should only be judged by the barons of the Cinque Ports.
Nature of endorsement
The constable of Dover should be ordered by writ that he should proceed to judgment in the complaint sued by the petitioner so that judgment is not delayed by the non-appearance of the barons of the Cinque Ports or for any other reason, or that he signify in Chancery reasonable cause why he has not returned judgment.
Places mentioned
