[?France: Cherbourg]. View of a port showing two jetties, sailing and steam vessels moored in, entering and leaving the harbour, fortifications, industrial and residential buildings, canals, and nearby countryside. The suggested identification as Cherbourg is taken from the War Office map docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps); it is consistent with the fact that the ships seem to be flying the French tricolour flag.
