Description
Petitioners
Richard Fitz Richard, Fitz Philip, de Routhley (Rowley), son of Richard Fitz Philip of Rowley Regis.
Name(s)
Fitz Richard, Fitz Philip, de Routhley (Rowley), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Richard son of Richard Fitz Philip of Rowley Regis states that he impleaded Agnes, widow of Roger de Somery, concerning the manor of Rowley Regis, by a writ of entry after disseisin, until she appeared through her attorney and claimed that she ought not to answer without the King as she held the manor for term of life by lease of the King's father, and she produced his charter for this. A day was given to the parties, with instructions to consult the King in the meantime; but Agnes has now died, and the manor has come into the King's hand through her death of the said Agnes. Richard requests a remedy, so that he is not wrongly disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Chamberlains of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, examining the books, rolls and memoranda of the same Exchequer, they are to inform themselves on the King's right in the manor of Rowley Regis, and how it first came into the hands of the King's ancestors, that is, before it was given to the aforesaid Agnes, and into all the other circumstances touching the King's right in the aforesaid manor in any way; and they are to inform the King on this in the next parliament, so that the King may do what is rightly to be done.
