Date
[1398-1399]
Description
Petitioners
Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk.
Name(s)
Pole, Earl of Suffolk, Michael
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The Earl of Suffolk states that the manor of Faxfleet and rents in North Dalton and Hull were originally granted to his father, but were taken into the king's hands following his father's forfeiture and granted to Henry Lescrope. His father's forfeiture was annulled at the last Parliament, but Stephen Lescrope, the heir of Henry, has requested to retain the rent in Hull, and also wishes to retain Faxfleet and the rents in North Dalton. As a result the Earl's restoration to the rents in Hull has been delayed for half a year, and he requests that this not be allowed and the property be restored to him.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Kingston upon Hull, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
Faxfleet, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
North Dalton, [East Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
Michael de la Pole, late Earl of Suffolk, father of the petitioner
Henry Lescrope (Le Scrope)
Stephen Lescrop (Le Scrope), son of Henry Lescrope
Keeper of the Privy Seal.
Note
Dated on the guard to 1397-8, with reference to the restoration of the Earl of Suffolk. However, this occurred in January 1398, and the reference to a six-month delay would seem to date this petition to the summer of 1398. This petition was evidently written by the same scribe as those at SC 8/251/12511 and SC 8/251/12512, and the identical stitch marks show that the three were formerly joined together and presumably presented at the same time.
