Antigua (now part of Antigua and Barbuda): English Harbour. Two sheets of plans elevations and sections showing (33) the building in proposed as a temporary barrack for the 'black troops' encamped on Monk's Hill and (34) a house belonging to Miss Benjamin proposed as a temporary barrack for a detachment of 'black troops'. Scales: (33) 1 inch to 400 feet; (34) 1 inch to 10 feet. Compass indicator on (33). (34) Drawn by Lieutenant E M Grain, Royal Engineers, 25 July 1849. MS notes read (33) 'To accompany Captn Lloyd's letter to the Commanding Royal Engineer, W.I. dated 15 June 1849' signed by Captain T Lloyd, Royal Engineers, 16 June 1849 and (34) 'To accompany my letter of this date to the Inspector General of Fortifications, W.I.Ward, Lt. Col. Commanding Royal Engineer, W.I. [West Indies] 31 July 1849'. Watermarked Edward Shaw, Maidstone.
