Nature of request
The Abbot of St Augustine's, Canterbury, encloses a petition stating that by a commission dated 21 June 14 Edward III, he was appointed collector of the ninth and fifteenth in Kent, and asking that a writ issued, wrongly as he says, to the Sheriff of Kent, to levy what has not been collected of this sum from him, might be repealed. He adds that this petition was sent, enclosed with letters of the privy seal, to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, but that they have done nothing, and that the Sheriff has sequestrated everything the Abbot has by virtue of his warrant. He asks that another letter might swiftly be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer.
