SC 8/238/11885
Date

Description
Petitioners
William Danvers and Richard Danvers, his brother.
Name(s)
Danvers; Danvers, William; Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William Danvers and Richard his brother state that Roger de Mortimer of Wigmore granted them each 10s. annually from his lands, tenements and rents in Newbury, until William was provided with a marriage or with another source of maintenance worth £20 annually, and until Richard was provided with a benefice worth £20 annually, because of the manor of Wokefield, which their father, Thomas Danvers, leased to Roger de Mortimer and his heirs, and which is in the King's hand because of Roger's forfeiture. Their rents have been paid until recently, when the King gave part of the lands from which they are taken to Alan de Beverley in farm. They ask that the charter to Alan might be repealed, as it was made by collusion and false suggestion.
Nature of endorsement
Because the said lands and tenements which are bound to pay the said William and Richard £10 annually are leased at farm for only £10 annually, and the King and his council did not know that the lands which were given to Alan were part of the tenements bound to William and Richard in this way, the council are advised that it would be just and reasonable that Alan's charter should be repealed, and that he should be provided for elsewhere to the same value, if it pleases the King; and the council have assented to this, so that William and Richard are not disinherited.
