[This petition is damaged.]The Mayor and community of Bristol state that the vintners of the Duchy of Guyenne have lately purchased the King's letters patent granting them the right to buy and sell their wines both to aliens and denizens, which is contrary to the franchises of Bristol, granted by the King's ancestors, and will prevent them from paying tallages or contributions to the King in future. They ask that they might have and enjoy their franchise as they did in times past.

Formerly enclosed with CCW 1244-1326 p.586 which is dated 6 March, and which can be dated to 1321 (a note on the dorse explains that 1321 is the only year in which the Bishop of Norwich was Chancellor and the Bishop of Exeter Treasurer, and documents were dated at Windsor on March 6).CPR 1317-21 p.355 is dated 24 June 1319.The confirmation at CChR 1300-26, p.438 was issue on 17 February 1322.
