Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/238/11858
Date
[? c. 1309]
Description
Petitioners
Gronw Lloyd ap Grono (Gronw) ap Heilyn and Gruffudd ap Peredur, of Merioneth.
Name(s)
Lloyd ap Grono (Gronw) ap Heilyn; ap Peredur, Gronw; Gruffudd
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that their fathers died in the last war of Wales, and that after the war their lands were extended in the King's hand as escheats; and that afterwards the King's of his grace granted to the heirs of those who died opposing him that they could enjoy their lands on the same terms as their fathers did. But now the true value of the lands according to the extent is demanded of them, and they are distrained for this. They ask the King that the grant made by his father might be upheld, and the extent quashed.
Nature of endorsement
They are to come to the Exchequer with the Chamberlain on the morrow of All Souls etc.
Places mentioned
Merioneth, Wales
North Wales.
People mentioned
[Edward I], King of England.
Note
From the endorsement, this petition would seem to be a contemporary of SC 8/238/11857, SC 8/238/11859 and SC 8/238/11861. A note on the guard claims that it is another of the petitions formerly enclosed with CCW 1244-1326 p.297, which is dated 18 September 1309. This date would agree with the hand, and the reference to the King's father.
