Nature of request
The burgesses of Calais request clarification regarding the application of law in their town and the hearing of appeals against errors in judgments made within the courts of the town. They also request that the king grant them the use of an empty building for housing their cattle, as a replacement for an earlier building which had been used for a long time but which has been taken into the king's hands by the Treasurer.
Nature of endorsement

Note
Dated on the guard to 1380, with reference to the related writ and inquisition at C 143/396/29. The writ ordering the inquisition was issued in March 1380, and the inquest was held at Calais around the close of Easter that year (both the writ and the inquisition are damaged, and the dating clauses of both are incomplete).
