Nature of request
This document forms the response to the petition at SC 8/222/11073. Firstly, it gives details clarifying the position regarding appeals against judgments made in the town according the local customs and laws, and also those cases involving the king. Secondly, it records that regarding the second request, there should be an enquiry whether this would be to the damage of the king or anyone else, and if it is not then they should be granted the place at 6s 8d per year. And let these matters be added to their charters.

Dated on the guard to 1380, with reference to the related writ and inquisition at C 143/396/29. The writ ordering the inquisition was issued in March 1380, and the inquest was held at Calais around the close of Easter that year (both the writ and the inquisition are damaged, and the dating clauses of both are incomplete).
