Description
Petitioners
Piers (Peter) de Taley of Bayonne.
Name(s)
de Taley, Piers (Peter)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Piers de Taley states that, on 23 October 1387, he was granted various customs duties on cloth and corn in Bayonne, on payment of a certain farm, in consideration of his service to the king's father during the war with the Bastard of Spain, and to the king himself. However, the officials of Bayonne have refused to allow him to take possession, and he therefore requests new letters, together with specific orders allowing him to take possession of the offices, and allowing him to recover the outstanding arrears.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] The king wishes that he should have the three bills of the privy seal.[on dorse] On 2 December in the twenty-second year (1398) it was agreed that the petitioner should have writs to Lieutenant of Aquitaine, the Constable of Bordeaux, the seneschal and receiver of Landes and the mayor and other officers of Bayonne, ordering that he be put in possession of the things contained in the petition according to the earlier letters patent, together with all the issues pertaining to these customs from the date of the letters. Present were the Chancellor, Treasurer, Bishop of London, Bishop of St David's, Henry Grene, John Russell, Ralph Selby and Laurence Dru.
