Nature of request
The prior of Hatfield Regis, who is of the patronage of the Earl of Oxford who is the King's ward, requests remedy against Cok, those endorsed on this bill and the greater part of the town of Hatfield who came with arms to the priory on 7 June in the first year of Richard II (1378), assaulted the petitioner, monks and servants, knocked down most of the cloister and walls and opened all the doors of the priory, entered its church and caused such alarm that the prior and monks have left the priory for fear of their lives. The prior also requests that he and his monks can safely return to the priory.1)
Nature of endorsement
[List of the accused].2) A commission of oyer and terminer should be made of the trespass at the petitioner's suit on the matter contained within to Cavendish, Percy, Tirell and Wauton or to three or two of them, provided that either Cavendish or Percy are included.
