Nature of request
Ravenser requests that whereas, having amortised certain lands and tenements to the chapter of St John of Beverley which he then recovered for the term of his life, he arraigned an assize of novel disseisin against St Quentin and others who have disseised him of the same lands, but as a result of the threats of St Quentin, Manfeld and others the sheriff of York and bailiff of the franchise of the chapter do not dare to perform their office in this case, and those empanelled in the assize do not dare to approach the justices assigned to hear their verdict, that St Quentin, Manfeld and the others be ordered to appear before the King and council to answer for their contempt in this case and that they find sufficient surety that they will not prevent any officers from performing their offices or disturb the common law in this case.
