Nature of request
[This petition is damaged and incomplete.]Simon de Somerdeby, chaplain, states that he was presented to the church of St Mary Matfelon by . . . de Segrave, then patron of the church; but that the Bishop of London refused to institute him into this church. Simon appealed him, but when he and his notary went to the Bishop's manor of Stepney to have execution of this appeal, the Bishop had them beaten and wounded and threw the notary into a ditch: so that he did not dare make execution of his appeal, and is in danger of losing his preferment. He requests a remedy.
