Nature of request
The Bishop of St Asaph's states that he is the defendant against John de Cherleton and Hawise his wife in a case based on three writs of quare impedit concerning the advowsons of the churches of Meifod, Guilsfield, and Welshpool, which are in Powys, and outside any county in England. He sued to have the inquisitions taken by the people of the four cantrefs nearest Powys, and commissions were issued to certain justices accordingly. John de Cherleton, however, has now intervened and had the commission sent back to Chancery to be amended. The Bishop asks to be delivered from this amended commission, and a writ to the justices of the Bench to stay proceedings, so that his church might not be disinherited.
