- Nature of request
- The Priors and convents of the Carthusian order state that by the letters patent of the King's predecessors they have always been quit of tenths and fifteenths and other taxation, until, in the time of the King's father, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer refused to allow them this liberty, on the grounds that the grants of taxation were made after the date of the letters patent; and, because of a difference of opinion among the Barons on this, they currently enjoy a respite from these taxes. They ask the King and lords to grant, by authority of parliament, that these letters patent should be good and effectual, both for the past and for the future.
- Nature of endorsement
- It is agreed and assented by the lords in the parliament held at Westminster on 20 October in the second year of King Henry VI that a letter under the privy seal should be addressed to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to cease from any process to be made against the said supplicants and all others who have liberties to be quit of tenths and fifteenths of the grant of the King's noble progenitors, until they have other commands from the King.
