Nature of request
John Fray states that on 30 July in his fifth year, Henry V gave John de Pont the manor of Aber in Caernarfonshire for term of life, paying 4d annually, provided that, if the value of the manor increased beyond 40 marks, that the King would be answered for the surplus: but the manor never exceeded this value, as can be seen from the accounts in the Caernarfon exchequer. Now John de Pont intends to surrender his letters patent for the manor, with the intention that John Fray should have it of the King's gift. He asks that, in consideration of the above, and of his long service in the English exchequer, he might have this manor for term of life, paying 4d. annually, provided that he maintains the buildings, woods, enclosures and gardens of the manor without waste or destruction and bears all royal charges; notwithstanding that the annual value of the manor is not mentioned, and notwithstanding a gift to the petitioner of two pipes of wine annually in the port of London at the King's pleasure.

CPR 1436-41 p.50 is dated 28 April 1437 and p.69 is dated 7 July 1437. These are clearly in response to this petition.
