- Nature of request
- Richard, Prior of Durham states that, despite an agreement made before the king, the Bishop of Durham has not redressed the grievances between them, but instead has added to them. A writ was brought before the king's justices, but due to false returns from the sheriff of Northumberland this has been delayed. Therefore the prior requests that the king also consider all grievances done since the agreement as well as before, such as the election of Luceby, and do right to him, as he will not succeed otherwise, since the bishop will not return writs to the court, and the sheriff of Northumberland will not or dare not return them. He also requests the king's protection for himself and his monks.
