Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/174/8685B
Date
[1299-1300]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Ferings, archbishop elect of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Ferings, Richard
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Dublin diocese, [Ireland]
County Dublin, [Ireland].
Nature of request
[Petition in 3 parts]. 1) Ferings requests that he be granted that he can have and use the liberties and free customs which he and his predecessors have had and used, and he requests the king's letter on this. 2) Ferings requests that the justices holding the eyre in the county of Dublin be ordered to respite all things touching him and his liberties until the end of the eyre. 3) Ferings requests that the king will grant his letters of protection, with the clause, to last for 2 years.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition dates to 1299-1300 as the archbishop is noted as being elect and is asking for the grant of his liberties, which clearly dates the petition to the period between Fering's provision in c. June 1299 and the delivery of his temporalities in June 1300. If the order to the keeper of the archbishopric of Dublin to restore the temporalities to the petitioner was as a result of this petition, then the petition dates to 1300, the order dating to 1 June 1300 (CPR 1292-1301::p.518).
