Nature of request
Due remedy is requested so that the charges, works of charity that ought to be performed and the benefice be saved without waste as a dispute has arisen between Wendlyngburgh and Mansfield as to who holds the office of provost, as Mansfield has wasted the lands and tenements of the church to maintain the quarrel. They request writs of prohibition to the archbishop and Mansfield, and a writ to the chapter not to allow any damage to be done to the damage of the church. They request the income of the provost be saved until the matter is discussed, and letters to the executors of Thoresby as are reasonable in this case.
Nature of endorsement
It is assented by the council, 1 February 4 [Ric. II], in the presence of various lords [named] that the things comprised in the petition be done under the great seal for the reasons contained within the petition.
