Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/173/8637
Date
[1389]
Description
Petitioners
Michael de la Pole, son of Michael de la Pole; Katherine de la Pole, wife of Michael de la Pole, and daughter of Hugh, late earl of Stafford.
Name(s)
Pole; Pole, Michael; Katherine
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Poles request that the grant of the king to them of lands and tenements be executed giving them lands, tenements, rents or farms from Michael de la Pole, the father or from others, as it was agreed on the marriage of the petitioners that Pole would settle on the petitioners £100 of land, and although he settled several manors on them, at the time of his forfeiture this did not amount to that sum, and the king has promised in several parliaments to settle this matter.
Nature of endorsement
It is granted by the assent of the prelates and lords in parliament that the council assign and deliver as much as is required to make the £100 from the lands of Michael de la Pole or of others, to hold to them and their heirs of their bodies issuing according to the effect of the indenture mentioned in the petition
Places mentioned
Blyborough, Lincolnshire
Harpswell, Lincolnshire
Grassthorpe, Nottinghamshire.
People mentioned
Michael de la Pole, father of Michael de la Pole, the petitioner
Hugh [de Stafford], earl of Stafford, father of Katherine de la Pole.
Note
A note on the petition refers to a commission issued on 29 March 1389 to ascertain the true value of these manors (CPR 1388-92, p.58), seemingly in response to the petition at SC 8/21/1026. However, the wording of the reference to the petitioner's father indicates that the present petition was presented after the death of the elder Michael de la Pole on 5 September 1389. A further grant to the petitioners was made on 27 February 1391 (CPR 1388-92, p.383), following an order by the king made during the autumn parliament of 1390, and it seems likely that this is the petition made to that parliament which led to this grant.
