SC 8/172/8599
Date
[c. 1334]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Estfeld (Eastfield) and Alice de Estfeld (Eastfield).
Name(s)
de Estfeld (Eastfield); de Estfeld (Eastfield), Thomas; Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Estfelds and others request that the chancellor be ordered to grant a writ to the justices in a plea by them for an inheritance in Guernsey that they proceed to judgment without further delay notwithstanding that the inheritance is in the king's hand, it already being found in Chancery that there was nothing for the king to hold the inheritance. They also request that the keeper of the Isles be ordered to return whether there is anything in the rolls by which the king can hold the tenements.
Nature of endorsement
They should have a writ to the justices of the King's Bench to make the tenor of the process to be brought into Chancery thus that the king is able to be advised by his council, and further state his will.
Places mentioned
Guernsey, [Channel Islands].
People mentioned
Geoffrey lescrop (Scrope), justice of the Bench
Richard de Wylughby (Willoughby), justice of the Bench.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1334 as the king finally ordered the restoration of the inheritance to the petitioners and others on 24 September 1334 (CCR 1333-7, pp.253-4).
