Reference
SC 8/172/8559
Date
[1327-1328]
Description
Petitioners
Prior of Wilmington.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Prior of Wilmington
Nature of request
The prior requests that the king's presentation of Wyle to the prior's church of Marsh be repealed as it was made after the king restored the lands, tenements and advowsons to the prior, and Befford, whom the prior has presented is not able to take advantage of his presentation.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let the petition be sent into Chancery, and let the chancellor advise himself of the time when the lands, tenements and advowsons were restored to the prior, and if the king's presentation was made after this date then let the presentation be repealed.2) Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Wilmington, [Sussex]
Grestein, Normandy, [France]
Marsh, Buckinghamshire.
People mentioned
John de Beford
Philip de le Wyle.
Note
The petition must date to 1327-1328 because Philip de la Wyle was presented to the king on 3 February 1327, and the prior's claims seem to have been unsuccessful for the king was making a fresh presentation on 29 November 1328 (CPR 1327-30, pp.3, 7, 340). As the petition clearly refers to the repeal of the presentation of Wyle, the petition must date between the presentations of Wyle and London.
