Nature of request
The bailiffs request respite from the orders of the king until the return of the bishop from overseas where he is in the protection of the king. The king has ordered them by two writs to restore Hawden and Maleville, but they forfeited because they rebelled at the start of the Scottish wars and attacked the bishop's lands, and the bishop granted their lands to Fitz Marmeduke and Paunton. The bailiffs dare not disseise them without the bishop's presence of his special order.
