'Sketch Map reproduced from Stephenson's Map of 1849, 50 of Railway Communications between Europe and Asia connecting the capitals of all the European states with those of the East by Constantinople [now Istanbul], to accompany the report upon the practicabilty and advantages of railway communication in European and Asiatic Turkey by Sir Macdonald Stephenson 1st January 1859': covering the area between London, in the north-west, and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in the south-east, showing proposed railway routes from Calais and Le Havre, in France, and Ostend, in Belgium, via Vienna, in Austria, Baghdad (now in Iraq) and Karachi (now in Pakistan), to Bombay (now Mumbai), Calcutta (now Kolkata), Madras (now Chennai) and Beypore, all in India; also showing major sea routes. Scale: 1 inch to about 100 miles.
