Description (What the record is about)
-
John Clevland. Have sent Mr Webber's machine for extracting foul air from ships on the Portmahon for a trial. Captain Montague informs that the machine extracted the foul air from the hold and let in fresh in an hour but the smell of the bilge water continued and the air was as foul as ever in a few hours. Observed it would work if used continuously. Propose a further trial in ships bound for the East Indies
