Description (What the record is about)
-
John Clevland. John Morris, late of the Hind Sloop, has petitioned because his wages were paid to an unknown person and asks to be relieved. He was entered in July 1744 as Ordinary Seaman until May 1745 when he was rated able. In September 1747 the Sloop was lost and his wages were paid to Benjamin Lukey for Samuel Robinson by order from Patrick Matthews, Executor. A certificate from Thomas Bullock, Gunner of the Hind, swears that the petitioner is the person that belonged to her but was in sick quarters at Boston when she was lost. The case has been referred to the Solicitor who has advised that an action should be brought against Lukey who received the wages in the name of Morris and have ordered him to do so.
