Note
The guard suggests a date of 1358 based on references to the petitioner latter petitioner, and perhaps to the former, but which have no apparent direct relation to the contents of the petition (Carte, I, p.140). As the guard note indicates, this date seems far too late for the hand, the petition looking more appropriate for a petition of the later 1330s or 1340s. However, to cover all these eventualities, a date of? 1335-? 1358 has been adopted.
