Surtays requests an enquiry concerning the priority of feoffment of lands concerning Robert de Middleton as the keeper of Barnard Castle has taken his heir into the king's hand because of his manor of Westwick, and because of the minority of the heir of the earl of Warwick when Middleton held the manor of Middleton from Surtays by an older feoffment.
Nature of endorsement
Let Fitz Hugh be ordered to enquire by the oath of his bailiff in the presence of the parties on the contents of the petition, and return the inquisition into Chancery. And if it is found that the suggestion is true then Fitz Hugh should remove his hand.
