Nature of request
The people of Winchester state that they sued two writs for the King, one concerning the suburb, that the Bishop and peers have appropriated without a warrant, and the other concerning the tools of cloth-workers, which are taxed for the farm of the city: but most cloth-workers have removed to the suburb where they no longer pay this tax. They ask the King to interest himself in this matter, as they are suing in his interest as his loyal men, and as their suit is worth nothing without him. They ask him to speak his will on this matter.
