Name(s)
Trevenant, Hugh
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
parson of the church of Walsoken
Nature of request
Hugh Trevenant, parson of the church of Walsoken states that because he had sued a process of Holy Church against one John Lavyngton, clerk, who claimed a right in that church, John came to that church with force and arms and made a violent attack on his proctors. Hugh then purchased a writ under the statute of Northampton, and had John arrested. Nevertheless, John has continued his attacks. He requests a remedy, so that he is not put out of his church without due process of law.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Walsoken, [Norfolk]
Norwich diocese.
People mentioned
John Lavyngton, clerk
Richard Sywe, chaplain and proctor of Hugh Trevenant.
Note
Dated on the guard to c.1388, with reference to a mention of a Howel Trefnant in the Calendar of Close Rolls: this reference however, does not seem to exist. From the hand and the language the petition would seem to date from late in the reign of Edward III or from the reign of Richard II.
