Reference
SC 8/143/7145
Date
[c. 1315-c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Bondmen of Trefmeibion.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The bondmen of Trefmeibion state that their ancestors have had their own mill in that vill since time immemorial, until Roger de Mortimer had it taken into the King's hand. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The Justice of North Wales is to be ordered to inform the King of the manner and cause of the taking of the mill into the King's hand.
Places mentioned
Trefmeypion (Trefmeibion), [Anglesey, Wales].
People mentioned
Roger de Mortimer, Justice of Wales.
Note
The two periods when this petition could be submitted would be when Roger de Mortimer of Chirk, Justice of Wales, was succeeded between 1315 and November 1316 by a Justice of North Wales, and after November 1330, when Roger de Mortimer of Wigmore, Justice of Wales, was again succeeded by a Justice of North Wales. It is perhaps slightly more likely that it relates to the earlier period, as Petitions Relating to Wales pp.241-2 thinks. There were at least three places beginning 'Tre Feibian' on Anglesey (Tre Feibian Maelog, Tre Feibian Meurig (Treban Meurig) and Tre Feibian Pyll (Treban Pyll)), and it is impossible to know which is concerned here. Rees' link to Tre Feibian Meurig is purely speculative.
