Description
Petitioners
Ellis (Elias) de Salle.
Name(s)
de Salle, Ellis (Elias)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner states that on the eve of St Laurence in the King's fourth year [9 August 1310], Little John le Hatter and other malefactors entered his shop in London with force and arms and took and carried off his goods, and they now remain in a chamber of the petitioner's, and have ladders with them. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The Mayor and Sheriffs of London are to be ordered that, when they have heard the complaint contained in this petition, they are to do justice on it. And if they do not, W. de Bereford, Hervey de Staunton and Gilbert de Toutheby, or two of them, are to be appointed to hear and determine the trespass contained here.

Note
CPR 1317-21 p.369, dated 20 May 1319, is to the justices mentioned in the petition, and mentions many of the malefactors listed here, so would seem to be related. It is issued on complaint made in the parliament of York, that these people have interfered with the manufacture and import of caps in London for some time - which might perhaps explain this matter being dealt with so long after the crime was committed.
