Reference
SC 8/124/6199
Date
[1305]
Description
Petitioners
Roger de Mortymer (Mortimer).
Name(s)
de Mortymer (Mortimer), Roger
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Roger de Mortimer complains that lands held in serjeanty appurtenant to the manor of Marden have been seized by the escheator, because they were alienated by certain tenants without the king's permission while Roger was on the king's service in Gascony and the manor was in the hands of Maud de Mortimer. Walter of Monmmouth held three acres of this land, and thus when he died the body and wardship of the heir was also taken into the king's hands. Roger therefore requests remedy, stating that he should hold the manor on the same terms as Edmund of Lancaster, to whom the manor had previously been granted by Henry III.
Nature of endorsement
Have a writ of Chancery to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer that they should call the parties before them and do justice.
Places mentioned
Mawardyn (Marden), [Herefordshire]
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
Henry [III], King of England
Edmund [of Lancaster, Earl of Lancaster]
Maud de Mortymer (Mortimer), [mother of the petitioner]
Walter de Monumowe (Monmouth).
Note
This is evidently the petition to which a response was enrolled on the parliament roll for the 1305 Parliament.
