Description

Governor of Veurne to Pulteney (extract): 16 of the 20 battalions [at Dunkirk] had embarked, and have now been disembarked. Some of these have returned to their garrisons. The port of Dunkirk is full of ships and others are in the road. There is a rumour in the town that there will be a further attempt on 15 April.

[On Dorse, dated 19 March at Dunkirk] To De Gievre, intendant of marines [sic] at Dunkirk, from De Morpas (extract): the affair in the Mediterranean [Toulon] will lead to immediate war with England, and no ships should sail until convoys are organized. The transports are under repair. He names the troops remaining in the town.

[Subscribed by Pulteney on 19 March at Ostend]: he has been to Bruges. No transports have arrived, but he is not concerned, as he believes the extracts on intelligence are reliable. The expedition is over but they may try again in the middle of the following month. ff. 31, 32
