Description (What the record is about)
-
To Josiah Burchett from Thomas Durell, London. Was ordered to survey Newfoundland, assisted by Lieutenant Gandy, which survey was probably delivered to Captain Candler at Jamaica. The coast from Trepassy to the Islands of Bergeaux was also surveyed, the survey was sent to New England in the Seahorse and Arcadia. Nova Scotia and the coast of New England to Cape Cod were surveyed. He went to New England in the Scarborough and delivered the drafts to Sir Charles Wager last July. Asks for the usual allowance. After his return from New England in the Scarbrough he applied for relief for the surplus rum supplied by a contractor abroad but the Commissioners of Victualling say it is unusual to receive remains without orders. They have granted the order but the Excise asked for the duty on it. Has passed his accounts for the Strafford and requests an order for his wages.
